Adrian Ghenie at Thaddaeus Ropac

Last Saturday Bill and I walked into the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac to find a suite of stunning large paintings. We weren't familiar with the artist.
Gallery staff told us that Adrian Ghenie is a Romanian who has found a congenial home in Berlin.
Forest Landscape with Fire is at least eight feet long and painted with exquisite touch and detail.
The gallery had just opened so there were only a few of us in the place.
Antelope attacked Near Gas Pipe. The show's overall title is 'Jungles of Paris".
Napalm. All of these works were painted this year.
So much fun to walk into a gallery and discover work as individual as Favela.  I see from the internet that Ghenie showed at Pace Gallery in NYC last year.
Hungry Lion 2 is about half the size of the other paintings in the show.
Upstairs we found a set of charcoal drawings. Here is Self Portrait Wearing a Bird Mask,
and Study for Antelope attacked Near Gas Pipe.
Also in the show were nine small collages on paper. It was fascinating to see how this material, printed off the internet, was transformed into paint. Study for Forest Landscape with Fire.
Another Study for Antelope attacked Near a Gas Pipe,  collage on paper. The collages are about 8 or 9 inches long.
Head of a Tiger. collage on paper
Bull attacked by a Tiger, 2018. collage on paper. Contemporary art is alive and well in Paris.
